Music and Poetry Recitation at Light of Christ Academy
Light of Christ has implemented a Latin chant program designed to help children learn many of the Church’s beautiful chants. Through lesson integration, students learn not only music theory, the art of performance, and the history of the great composers, but also how to connect with the depths of order and objective beauty communicated by music.
Our youngest students gain their first experiences with memorization by practicing and performing musical pieces. Students hone their memorization skills and strengthen their muscle memory through musical practice. They begin to read music and learn how to move with the music.
Students at all levels engage in poetry reading and recitation on a regular basis. Classic nursery rhymes are explored, memorized, and recited by younger students. Older students are immersed in beautiful classical poetry that they learn to analyze for meaning. They too engage in memorizing and reciting sometimes lengthy poems as a group and eventually as individuals.
